Who we are
Oaika Films is an independent documentary production company in Toronto founded as Mission and Theory in 2019 by filmmaker Jack Major.
Our curiosity is fueled by everyday stories—the ones that connect us, remind us of our humanity, and enlighten us on the possibilities for a better future. As a company proudly owned by members of the LGBTQ+ community, we aim to lead our industry by fearlessly addressing challenging narratives in everything we create. Our documentaries have premiered at various festivals throughout North America, earning awards in social impact and innovation. They've also been adopted as educational resources by advocacy groups in Canada.
It is our mission to grow Oaika into more than just a production team but rather a collective of citizen journalists united by the same philosophy: that the stories we tell today encourage the action of tomorrow.
Brand collaboration
At the heart of what we do is a dedication to creating powerful documentaries, but we're equally driven by our commitment to showcasing the vibrant stories within our community. Whether it's documenting the journey of a Black female-owned lifestyle brand or capturing the colorful expression of a local muralist transforming our cityscape, our goal is to uplift and amplify underrepresented voices.

Reaching your audience
As the world changes around us, one truth has remained constant: people crave genuine human stories. We want to see the heart and soul behind our favourite brands, with all the messiness, love and care that makes us human. Today’s audiences are looking to get behind companies that align with their values and make them feel good supporting them.
Digging into the heart and soul of a brand is what we do, and sharing authentic, everyday stories with those looking for connection, is why we do it.
