A little
about Oaika

Oaika Weddings is a creative division of Oaika Films — a small, independent production company based in Toronto, founded by documentary filmmaker Jack Major in 2019 (originally under the name Mission and Theory).

We tell stories that lean quiet, honest, and full of heart, from branded and documentary work to a select number of carefully crafted wedding films.

A note from the founder:

One of my first gigs fresh out of film school was capturing weddings. I wasn’t great at it right away — it took me a while to find my footing in the rush of it all. But what stuck with me, even in those early days, were the connections I made with couples and their families.

Over the years, I’ve had people reach out to say how grateful they are to have their wedding on video. Some share stories of loved ones who’ve passed — how a short clip turned into the last moving memory they have of them. It’s moments like these that remind me why this work matters. If a photo’s worth a thousand words, then a piece of video can hold a million.

I’ve always been sentimental about capturing people in their truest form — the way they laugh, cry, hug, dance. That love for honest moments pulled me into the world of documentary filmmaking, and in many ways, it’s what brought me back to weddings, too.

This kind of storytelling shaped me. It taught me how to pay attention — not just to the big moments, but the small ones that often mean the most. My greatest hope is to use the skills I’ve picked up along the way to bring a little joy, preserve a little memory, and maybe even create something irreplaceable. Because in the end, it’s the memories that make us. And some are worth the replay.
